Yes I know this isn’t exactly a bold statement to make. Rod Blagojevich needs to resign sooner rather than later. Quite frankly, this kind of a scandal is just not what the country needs right now. We’re in a deep economic funk that looks like it’s getting worse. We’re trying to figure out who to bailout and who to let collapse, including crucial and difficult discussions around the automakers. Barack Obama is assembling his administration and trying to reassure the American people that once he gets into office he’s going to get things under control. This is a time where the country needs to be coming together to work to overcome the difficulties we are facing now and will be facing in 2009. Yet with all the things that should be discussed, and everything that should be in the news, everyone is talking about a disgraced Governor from Illinois.

Now I don’t blame people that this is such a hot button topic, it’s a pretty big scandal. How big we don’t know. But it isn’t what the country needs right now. The only person who can stop the madness is sadly Blagojevich himself. Since he appears to be a madman, I should probably try and win the lottery than rely on him him to come clean. There’s no way Blagojevich can wiggle his way out of this, or save face here. In fact, the best thing for him, and for the country would be to call a press conference. He should admit that he was unethical, and tried to sell Obama’s Senate seat. He should apologize for all the harm he has caused Illinois and the country, volunteer to come clean about everything, and resign from his post. At the same time he should call for the entire country to move onto more important things, and not focus on the stupid things he has done as we try and recover our economy as a nation. In my opinion, this would save face just the slightest bit, and allow everyone to move on. Better than dragging this through the mud for months and months.

For everyone’s sake, I hope the bulk of this controversy is out of the public eye by January 20th. We have more important things to worry about.

Here’s a recent article about how it looks like Blagojevich is doing the opposite of what I just said.. article

  1. it’s interesting how Blagojevich seems so unaffected by all the chaos swirling around him; it’s as if he feels right at home…
